From an elite environment to an inclusive community

E4A – Esport for Alle

E4A was first established in 2015 under the name Riddle Elektroniske Sportsklubb.

We used to be an elite club with strong results: multiple national titles, a Nordic championship in League of Legends, and a prominent standing in Norwegian esports.

However, we discovered something important: Many young people wanted to join in – but not everyone could or wanted to compete at the top level.

That is why we made a conscious choice and relaunched the association in the autumn of 2023 under the name Esport for Alle (E4A).

Now we are first and foremost a grassroots community association. Our mission is not to win titles – but to ensure that no one is left behind.

That is why we have:

  • Gathered esports clubs in Nedre Glomma under one umbrella

  • Initiated the establishment of Esportens Hus in Fredrikstad – open to all teams, all skill levels

  • Developed low-threshold initiatives that reach young people others cannot reach

Tangible benefits of engaging in esports

– for community, school, and inclusion:

1. Lowers the threshold for social participation

For many young people who fall outside traditional leisure activities – especially girls, minority youth, and those with anxiety or autism spectrum conditions – esports is a safe gateway. You can participate without having to perform physically, without needing to talk a lot, and without feeling judged.

2. Builds real, transferable skills

Through esports, young people practice:

  • Collaboration and communication (especially in team-based games like LoL, Valorant, Overwatch)

  • Problem-solving under pressure

  • Self-regulation and frustration management

  • Strategic thinking and quick decision-making

3. Reduces school refusal and increases school attendance

Our initiative, School Refusal Support, uses esports as motivation:

  • Youth who would otherwise not show up come to school because they know the gaming activity awaits after class.

  • Several report a greater sense of mastery and better relationships with teachers.

4. Creates role models and leaders

Through the Young Leaders program, we train youth to coach, organize tournaments, and take responsibility for others. Several of our former participants are now volunteer leaders themselves.

5. Gives purpose to boys who might otherwise be left behind

Esports connects with a large group of boys and young men who are often underrepresented in volunteer work, culture, and traditional sports. They get a place to belong, something to master, and caring adults who see them.

6. Prevents loneliness and radicalization

Many young people find community online – but often in closed, unsafe spaces. E4A offers a moderated, safe, and social gaming environment where adults are present and values such as respect, inclusion, and team spirit are at the core.
